Basically, my teams are trying to kill me and the Hockey Gods are convinced that I, like, tried to kill Gretzky. Have a drabble while I continue to drown my sorrows in booze.

pre-Shawzy/Bolly, Jonny/Pat, Sharpy/Abby, Duncs/Seabs, set in the Wolves of Chicago 'verse, a year or two from now. Mentally, I called this 'Mutt-the-Wonder-Sitter', so yeah, that should give you an idea of how fluffy this is.

*

Brandon knocked on Shawzy's door, nervously shifting his weight from foot to foot. He wasn't sure what kind of reception he was going to get and that just made the past week even worse; he didn't know why one of his best friends wasn't speaking to him, he had a huge ass crush on said best friend and he was having the weirdest fucken dreams.

Brandon smiled when the door swung open and a harried-looking Andy stared at him for a minute before he managed to say, "Bolly, man. What's up?"

"Hey," Brandon said easily, already feeling better than he had a few minutes ago. "You weren't answering your phone, so I wanted to make sure you didn't drown yourself in the toliet or anything."

Andy smirked at him, but before he could say anything, there was the sound of running, followed by a small, female voice calling out, "Mutt, Sadie's awake! And Carter and Colton are still pouting because I won, so I put them in time-out. And then Carter..."

Brandon looked on in bemusement as Sharpy's oldest daughter stopped when she caught sight of him; her eyes scrunched up before she inhaled deeply. Brandon braced himself because any time his sister's kids did that, it was immediately followed by screeching, but Madelyn just turned to Andy and looked at him accusingly.

"Maddy, stop it, you know Bolly," Andy told her before he waved Brandon inside the apartment. "As you can see, I'm babysitting for the guys, so I can't go anywhere. Sorry, dude."

"Well, I could hang out?" Brandon offered, hoping he didn't sound as desperate as he felt; he really didn't want to go back to his place after thinking he was going to be able to hang out with Shawzy all afternoon. "I mean, you're out numbered, right? You could probably do with the help."

Maddy sniffed again and then rolled her eyes. "You should probably ask Daddy first and Al-" she cut herself off and gave Brandon a look before she went on, "and Jonny, too. And Uncle -"

"Yeah, yeah," Andy said fondly, he grabbed her and tossed her in the air, making her squeal with delight and let out a sound Brandon couldn't quite place. Andy grinned when she threw her arms around his neck.

"You're my favorite, Mutt," Maddy informed him as she rubbed her face against Andy's and then wiggled to get down.

Brandon raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything; sure, he had never seen a little kid rub their face over anyone else's, but that didn't really mean anything -his nephew ate paste until he was nine, so really, not even the worst thing Brandon had ever seen.

Andy rubbed his head over her hair and then put her down. "Do me a favor, Maddy, and go entertain the babies while I call Jonny."

Maddy heaved a put upon sigh that made Brandon hide a smile; he remembered doing the same thing when his sister was still young enough to need looking after. Maddy glared at him like she knew he was amused before she skipped down the hallway to where Brandon guessed the kids were taking naps in one of the spare bedrooms.

Andy was already on his phone, talking in a low voice. "Tazer, is it alright if Bolly hangs out for a little while? No, he showed up, I didn't -yeah, of course. Yeah.

"No, they just woke up from their naps," Andy went on, his voice calmer; he paused and then snickered. "Yeah, they're fine, I was just about to order some food. No, tell Sharpy to kiss my ass, you guys are already eating steak, I'm not buying him Chinese food so he has something to snack on later. Yeah, OK. Don't worry, we'll be fine. I'll see you in a couple hours. Bye."

Andy turned back to him, more relaxed and happier than before. "Well, it's all good with Tazer, so. Welcome to the madhouse, buddy. If you end up scarred for life, remember you asked for it. I'll be back in a minute."

Brandon took off his jacket and hung it up before he toed off his sneakers and wandered into the living room, carefully avoiding the toys strewn across the carpet.

He briefly wondered what the hell it mattered to Tazer if he was around his teammates' kids, but he put it to the side to ask about later.

Not even five minutes later, Andy came back in the living room, Sadie on his hip and the rest of the kids running in front of him. The boys skidded to a stop almost exactly at the same time and stared up at him. They were bigger than Brandon remembered, but then, he hadn't seen them in a month or so and kids that age grew like fucken weeds.

"That's just Bolly," Maddy scoffed as she went straight to the coloring book and crayons that were on a blanket in front of the TV. "You've met him before, dummies."

"Madelyn," Andy said, his voice hard -a lot harder than Brandon thought reprimanding a six-year old deserved. "You know better than that. You're the oldest, you know they listen to you."

"Sorry," Maddy said and dropped her chin to her chest, her eyes glued to the floor.

"I'm not the ones you should be apologizing to, am I?" Andy told her.

She shook her head and got up. "I'm sorry, Carter. I'm sorry, Colton," she apologized and hugged them; then she rubbed her cheek across the top of their heads and really confused Brandon.

Andy's face softened and he put Sadie down on the floor and watched her make her way to Brandon, pull herself up on his jeans and start babbling at him before he swung Maddy up into a hug.

They had a whispered conversation that made Maddy eventually smile at Andy and seem happier.

Brandon picked up Sadie and carried her over to the couch and sat down; she stared at him for almost a minute before she started looking around and pointing at everything.

Andy put her back down and ushered the boys over to where there were some of the old fashioned wooden blocks set up with what looked like a few newer action figures. Once the three of them were settled down and playing semi-quietly -Carter and Colton especially liked to growl at each other while making their toys fight; it startled Brandon how realistic they sounded at first, but since Andy wasn't bothered by it, he decided not to be, either- Andy settled himself next Brandon, their legs pressed together.

"Chinese food sound good? I want to rub it in Sharpy's face when he gets home," Andy smirked as he ran a careful hand over Sadie's face; Sadie crowed happily and started saying 'Mutt' over and over again.

"Yeah, man, that's good," Brandon told him as he let Sadie crawl down and then wander over by her sister. "You want me to pay? I did kind of invite myself over."

"Like a date," Maddy said gleefully, reminding Brandon uncomfortably of Sharpy, her next words just drove it home. "Wait 'til I tell Daddy! And Patty!"

"No, it's cool," Andy said hastily, his cheeks red. "I got it. You want the usual, right?"

While Andy went into the other room to order, Brandon glanced around at the kids out of habit -being the oldest had it's drawbacks, mainly that you never really got over feeling responsible for almost everything.

Carter -Brandon was almost sure it was Carter, it was hard for him to tell the twins apart sometimes- put one of the wooden blocks in his mouth and started gnawing on it. He got up and went down to crouch down next to them. "No," Brandon said firmly. "That's not food, don't put it in your mouth."

Carter looked at him and purposely bit the block; when Brandon frowned and reached out to take it away from him, Carter clutched it to his chest and bared his teeth at Brandon. "Mine," he insisted.

It was kind of the cutest thing Brandon had ever seen -even if he didn't know what was up with Carter opening his mouth like that, he only had about six or seven teeth and he could see the gaps in between them. He bit back a smile when Colton moved closer to his brother and started making those growling noises from earlier.

"He's trying to prove he's stronger than you," Maddy informed him, her tone of voice made it clear that she thought that much was obvious. At the blank look on his face, she rolled her eyes and shook her head before going back to her coloring book.

"Toy," Sadie said clearly, as she climbed up Brandon's back. "Toy," she repeated happily, followed by something that was either toddler-babble or French.

"Oui, Sadie," Andy agreed as he came back in the room. "Jouet, toy."

Sadie looked as smug as a two-year old was capable of before she slid off of Brandon's back and went over to her sister, saying the names of colors.

"I didn't know you knew French, Mutt," Brandon said as he got up from the floor; Carter watched him warily, mouthing at the block again. Colton just glared, and bared his teeth -all five of them- at him.

"Non, petit homme," Andy said sternly; he caught the toddler's eye and went on, "Nous ne faisons pas cela en face de l'homme."

Colton dropped his head almost immediately and moved closer to his twin. Andy ran a hand over his hair and smiled at him before he turned his attention back to Barandon.

"Yeah, we all do," Andy told him with a shrug. "It's not a big deal."

"I think I'd remember if the whole team spoke French," Brandon chuckled and bumped his shoulder against Andy's.

Andy hesitated a beat too long before he laughed and nudged Brandon back. "I meant us Canadians, Bolly, obviously we're superior in every other way, so of course we know more than one language."

Brandon looked at him curiously, certain for some reason that that wasn't what Andy had meant at all.

"Come on, man, let's find something to watch while we wait for the food to get here."

By the time they picked a movie and then ate, it was almost three in the afternoon and Brandon wasn't ashamed to admit he was exhausted; he always forgot how much kids took out of you until he ended up watching some again.

After they cleaned up and then collapsed back onto the couch, the kids laying around -and on top of them- Brandon was relaxed and drowsy enough to let himself lean against Andy.

"I had this weird dream about you last night," Brandon admitted absently, too warm and comfortable to censor himself.

"Dream," Andy repeated slowly, his voice a little off. He tried to move away, but in between the kids sprawled on his lap and Brandon pressed against his side, he didn't any where to go.

"Yeah," Brendon agreed sleepily. "We were in the woods somewhere, I guess, and then we were running and play fighting."

"Well," an all too familiar voice drawled from behind them. "Isn't that interesting?"

"Daddy!" Maddy squealed in delight; she scrambled off of Andy's lap and then jumped off the back of the couch at her father who caught her easily. "You're home!"

Brandon slowly looked over his shoulder, completely unsurprised to see his teammates smirking at him in various states of amusement.

"Papa!" Carter called out happily and almost wacked Brandon in the face with the block he still had clutched in his hand.

"Daddy," Colton added, quieter than his brother, but no less enthused.

"Hey, monsters," Seabs said affectionately as he picked Carter off of the couch where he was trying to climb over Brandon. He nosed along the toddler's hair and inhaled softly; after a second he pulled back enough that Carter could push his own face against his father's. "Bolly, what's up, man?"

"I see you survived," Duncs added dryly as Colton settled against him.

"Hey, guys," Brandon said, embarrassed for no real reason he could think of. "How was lunch?"

"Not bad," Tazer answered as he shrugged off his jacket. "Less of a pain in the ass than I thought it was going to be. Come here for a minute, Mutt?"

He strode across the room into the kitchen, not even checking to see if Andy would listen to him; Brandon was used to seeing that on ice, where it was second nature to listen to Tazer, but it was strange seeing it in this context.

Andy looked like he would rather not talk to Tazer, but he got up and once he handed Sadie, who was sleeping again, off to Kaner, he obediently followed after him.

As Kaner quietly walked Sadie down the hall, Sharpy turned back to Brandon, looking gleeful.

"So, Bolly, dreaming of Mutt, eh?" Sharpy raised his eyebrow and smirked. "It's like that, is it? I didn't know annoying pain in the ass was your type."

"It's not like anything, Sharpy," Brandon insisted weakly; he knew there was no way he wasn't going to get chirped for this.

"They had a date today," Maddy announced, a familiar gleam in her eye. "Bolly tried to pay for lunch, like he was Mutt's boyfriend."

Sharpy looked like Christmas had just come early and even Duncs and Seabs were starting to snicker; Brandon flushed with embarrassment. He hated his team. No, really, he did.

"Leave him alone, guys," Kaner ordered casually when he came back in the room.

To Brandon's semi-amazement, they actually listened; even Sharpy, who still glanced at him in a way that made Brandon promise himself to be on the lookout for pranks in the next few days.

A few minutes later, Andy came out of the kitchen; he looked sullen, which was pretty hysterical and after a glaring at the ground, he turned to Brandon. "Hey, you want to go hang out over at your place?"

"Yeah, man, sounds good," Brandon stood up and ignored the laughing directed at him and got his shoes and coat on.

Andy walked past him and opened the door for him; just as Andy closed the door behind them, he thought he heard Duncs say, "It's about fucken time."

Andy growled and let the door slam; Brandon slung an arm around Andy's shoulders. "Lucky us, huh? Surrounded by assholes all the time."

Andy relaxed with a small laugh. "Yeah. Lucky us. Look, I need to, uh, talk to you. It's kind of important."

"Yeah, of course. Don't worry, Mutt, you can always tell me anything."

"I guess I knew that," Andy agreed after a second.

Suddenly, Brendon felt better about everything that had been bothering him earlier.

Poor Bolly, always in the dark, lol. I'm glad you thought this turned out alright -I was worried about it being from Bolly's POV, and having the werewolf thing not being the focus of it. Eventually Bolly will learn about the Pack and then he's going be like, "Ahhhh, now all that growling makes sense", lol.

I want to say a tentative maybe for a sequel -I kind of want to write one, but with the playoffs being so fucky, it's really affecting the muses, so. But I do want to write a drabble or something when Bolly knows and tries to figure out how to navigate Pack stuff without going crazy and dealing with hocky.

I'll probably end up writing it when I'm either riding a win or when I need a cheer-me-up, lol.

And, yeah, that makes perfect sense, it's exactly what I was going for actually, so that's awesome, thanks :D
