Date: 2014-05-14 05:38 am (UTC)1. When I write Jonny, I've always got hockey on my mind. More.so than even my Bandom muses, hockey is who Jonny is -he's always going to be a hockey player first and foremost; in fact my internal list of who Jonny "is" goes like this: 1. Hockey Player, 2. Captain, 3. Jonny. It's impossible to separate the three of them to a large degree; I mean, when I write.Jonny kissing Pat, that's very much Jonny-the-boyfriend, yeah. But even then Jonny-the-hockey-player is right there, reminding me of a.hundred different things that Jonny-the-boyfriend wouldn't/couldn't do because of Hockey. And even if I ignore Jonny-the-hockey-player, Jonny-the-boyfriend is quick to remind me because, again, hockey is everything.
2. Jonny is Canadian, French-Canadian on his mom's side. To me, that means he doesn't talk the way Pat does or even the way Sharpy does, even though Sharpy's Canadian, too. Canonically he's fluent in French, so I keep that in mind, too. He calls him mother maman when he's talking to her and talks French when he gets drunk or when he's pissed; he uses French for pet names and when he needs.the comfort of home.
3. He likes to be in charge. Jonny's third youngest Captain in the NHL, second youngest to ever win a Cup, and he wears the C like he was born to it. Even before the C was on his jersey, he bossed everyone around, yelled at them about plays and games and just generally made them listen to him. Some people are just born leaders, born to want that role, to strive for it amd that's Jonny, hands down. So when I write him, it's always with this unconscious belief that he will be...not obeyed, exactly, but listened to. When he tells Kaner to do drills or tells Duncs to work on his training, he just assumes that they'll listen to him, because he's the Captain, he's Jonny and he pretty much thinks of himself as the boss of everyone. And he takes that responsibility seriously, looks out for everyone on his team, not just because he wants to win, but because they're his. If someone disagrees with him, he'll listen and weigh their argument in when he's making decisions, but, ultimately, he's the one in charge.
